Jupiter, FL – The Lauren Baer for Congress campaign released the following statement after multiple news reports connected Rep. Brian Mast with right-wing extremists, including the Congressman accepting campaign contributions.
“The company we keep speaks wonders about our character and Congressman Mast must answer for associating with extremists far from the mainstream,” Rebecca Lipson, campaign manager said. “From appearing on radio shows hosted by religious bigots, to speaking at events funded by hate groups, to accepting money from an individual who referred to the former president with an appalling racial slur, Mast’s company renders any claims that he is a “moderate” false. This is a documented pattern of behavior that should make anyone cringe and question how Congressman Mast is representing our community.”
Timeline of Mast’s association with right-wing extremists:
Mast Made Three Appearances On A Radio Show Hosted By Dianne Sori And Craig Andersen, Who “Regularly Espouse Fringe Anti-Muslim Comments.” “A Florida congressman has made three appearances on a radio show hosted by two people who regularly espouse fringe anti-Muslim comments. Republican Rep. Brian Mast appeared on the Right Side Patriots radio program on Tuesday, an online show hosted by conservative commentators Diane Sori and Craig Andresen who proudly describe themselves as anti-Muslim.” [CNN, 8/16/18]
Mast Spoke At Two David Horowitz Freedom Center Conferences.“The Treasure Coast’s congressman has spoken at two annual conferences and on three online radio shows featuring others’ racist, misogynistic and anti-Muslim sentiments. U.S. Rep. Brian Mast, R-Palm City, was an unpaid speaker at the David Horowitz Freedom Center’s Restoration Weekend conferences in Palm Beach in 2016 and 2017 — the same event former Republican congressman and current Florida gubernatorial candidate Ron DeSantis was criticized for attending.” [TC Palm, 9/18/18]
Mast Accepted Almost $7,000 In Campaign Contributions From Someone Who Called President Obama A “F***** Muslim N****”: “Alembik’s criticisms of Islam… found a home at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago in February where he organized a gala for a conservative group called “Truth About Israel.” Speaking at the event: DeSantis and fellow Florida Republican Congressman Brian Mast, to whom Alembik has contributed $6,900 since 2017.”[Politico 9/20/18]
